Fashion Retailer Simons Expands into Atlantic Canada

Fashion retailer Simons has expanded into the Maritimes with the opening of a new store in Primaris REIT’s redeveloped Halifax Shopping Centre.

Quebec City-based Simons is occupying a 56,200-square-foot unit in a former Sears space. The $52-million Sears redevelopment includes a 38,500-sf Winners and a 15,000-sf Pet Smart, which are now open. A 13,000-sf Dollarama is expected to open by the end of March.

Toronto-based Primaris acquired the Halifax Shopping Centre and the adjacent Annex in November 2023 for $370 million in cash and equity.

Halifax Shopping Centre is an indoor mall that spans about 562,000 sf on 20.9 acres of land with a committed occupancy of 96.2%. The mall’s other large-format tenants include Sport Chek and Zara.

The open-air Annex centre comprises 412,000 sf on 26.7 acres.
