Feds, Fonds, City Open New Affordable Housing Project in Laval

The federal and provincial governments, city and the Fonds de solidarité FTQ have officially opened Le 605, a 101-unit affordable housing project in Laval, Que.

Led by the Société de gestion Querbes, the development is designed to support families and individuals from a wide range of cultural backgrounds. The $45.5-million project was completed under the Fonds de solidarité FTQ–Government of Quebec Agreement, with $20 million contributed by the federal Affordable Housing Fund, $17.6 million from the province and $7 million from the city.

Located at 605 Curé-Labelle Boulevard, the six-storey building includes bachelor, one-, two- and three-bedroom units. Officials say the project aims to provide a safe, inclusive environment that supports residents’ independence and social integration.

Sixty-five of the 101 households may benefit from the Société d’habitation du Québec’s rent supplement program, depending on eligibility. SHQ (90%) and the city (10%) provide funding for the program.

The project forms part of a broader plan to create 2,278 social and affordable housing units in Quebec by 2027 through the partnership between the provincial government and the Fonds.
