Feds, Province, City Fund Dartmouth Multi-Res Project
The federal, provincial and regional governments have invested $16 million in a new multi-residential housing development project in Dartmouth, N.S.
The 45-unit Main Street Centre project, which is already under construction, will offer seniors and affordable housing. Of the total, 25 will be designated as affordable units and 20 will offered for market rent.
“These new affordable housing units are going to make a real difference in the Dartmouth area,” said federal Housing Minister Sean Fraser in a news release. “They will both help support seniors and persons with a mental health diagnosis, and help create a stronger, more inclusive community.”
One dozen of the units will be fully accessible, residents will have grade-level access to social enterprises on Main Street.
The building will also have a seamless interface with 10 transitional housing units at the back already managed by Affirmative Ventures, which will operate the building.
The federal government is investing $11.8 million through the Affordable Housing Fund, which is part of the National Housing Strategy. The Nova Scotia government is supplying $4.7 million.
The Halifax Regional Municipality, which includes Dartmouth, is supplying $162, 636 and Affirmative is providing $350,000 in land equity. The project has also received $73,000 in seed funding.
The development is slated to be completed in 2025.
