Feds Support Construction of 24,000 New Homes in Brampton
The federal government will fast-track the construction of 3,150 new homes over the next three years, and support the development of 24,000 new housing units during the next decade, in Brampton, Ont.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that Ottawa has reached an agreement with the City of Brampton to provide it with $114 million through the federal $4-billion Housing Accelerator Fund.
The investment is expected to generate hundreds of new rental apartment units and several other multi-residential real estate development projects. Much of the funding appears likely to go towards new housing that supports seniors, Indigenous peoples, people experiencing or at risk of homelessness, and women and children fleeing violence.
News of the Brampton partnership came after the federal government invested $93.5 million to fast-track the construction of 2,600 new housing units in Hamilton over the next three years through the HAF.
The Trudeau federal government is also using HAF money to invest $59 million the development of 1,700 new housing units in Vaughan, Ont., and $74 million in 2,000 new residences in London, Ont.
