Feds Supporting Prairie Companies Hurt by Tariffs
The federal government is rolling out new support for businesses in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta affected by trade disruptions.
The funding has widespread implications for region’s commercial real estate sector, including manufacturing facilities and other industrial properties and projects.
Through the Regional Tariff Response Initiative (RTRI), funding will be available to help companies adapt to shifting global conditions, expand markets, strengthen supply chains and boost domestic trade. Not-for-profit groups that assist businesses in managing tariff impacts will also be eligible.
“Canadian and Prairie businesses are facing real pressures in a shifting global trade landscape, said Eleanor Olszewski, minister of emergency management and community resilience and the minister responsible for Prairies Economic Development Canada (PrairiesCan).
“The Regional Tariff Response Initiative, or RTRI, equips them to respond with strength — to adapt, innovate, and lead. Prairie businesses have always punched above their weight in driving Canada’s productivity, and this initiative will help them expand into new markets while continuing to weather short-term challenges.”
Applications for Prairie-based businesses open September 15 through PrairiesCan’s online portal.
The $150-million RTRI is part of a wider package of measures that includes the Large Enterprise Tariff Loan Facility, the Business Development Bank of Canada’s Pivot to Grow program, and enhancements to the Strategic Innovation Fund.
