Fonds, Feds, Quebec Partner on Housing Developments

The Fonds de solidarité FTQ will build 1,000 new social or affordable housing units in Quebec over the next three years with the federal and provincial governments.

The partners announced the plan Friday.

The housing units will be created as part of the Fonds-Quebec agreement with funds provided through $900 million in federal Housing Accelerator money tied to the Canada-Quebec agreement. The province has also furnished $900 million as part of its agreement with Ottawa.

The Fonds is also providing some of its own capital.

“The projects will largely be new constructions, while a smaller share will be existing buildings acquired with the aim of renovating them and ensuring lasting rent affordability,” said the partners in a news release.
