Former MEC Store to Become MF Complex

A former Mountain Equipment Co-op Store on Vancouver’s west side will be reborn as a multi-family mixed-use complex.

City council approved a redevelopment plan that calls for the construction of two rental apartment towers comprising 514 suites and a city-owned 37-space child care facility. The redevelopment will include two floors of retail units on the bottom portion of a podium.

The site is located at West Broadway and Columbia Street. The redevelopment project is led by Vancouver-based firms Reliance Properties and QuadReal Group.

Mountain Equipment Co-op was rebranded as the Mountain Equipment Company after emerging from bankruptcy under new ownership in 2020. The former Broadway store was relocated to Olympic Village.

Mountain Equipment Company has voiced plans to double its store count within six years.
