Franklin Templeton Brings Clarion’s Strategy to Canada

Franklin Templeton’s Canadian subsidiary has introduced Clarion Partners’ private real estate investment strategy in Canada.

Canadian qualified investors can now access the strategy through iCapital’s customized technology and servicing solutions.

New York-based iCapital is a large player in the alternative investment sector. The company offers a turnkey asset management program (TAMP), among many other services.

TAMPs typically help financial advisors delegate portfolio management strategies, particularly back-office operations.

San Mateo, Calif.-based Clarion Partners ranks as one of the globe’s largest pure-play real estate investment management companies. The firm is part of U.S.-based Franklin Templeton’s US$255-billion alternative asset investment business.

“Our singular focus on real estate allows us to identify potential opportunities that others may overlook,” said Dave Gilbert, Clarion’s CEO, in a news release.

“We invest beyond what people typically associate with private real estate, finding that properties such as multi-family apartments, industrial warehouses and life sciences facilities represent attractive investment opportunities.”

The introduction of Clarion’s strategy in Canada comes after French private-equity investment firm Ardian expanded into the country with the opening of an office in Montreal.
