Global Giant BGIS Launches Facilities Management Firm with Indigenous Group

Global giant BGIS has partnered with Indigenous-owned firm Des Nedhe Group on a new facilities management company.

The new joint-venture is named Ela Hultsi, a Dene-language term that that translates to “Let’s build for the future.”

Founded in 1991, Des Nedhe is owned and operated by the Saskatchewan-based English River First Nation. The company comprises a diverse collection of Indigenous-owned businesses that aim to create lasting change in Indigenous communities and corporate supply chains throughout Canada.

In a news release, Markam, Ont.-based BGIS and Des Nedhe called the joint-venture “a landmark union of shared values and visions. The partners aim to foster sustainable employment and business growth within Indigenous communities across the country.

“This partnership is a testament to the strength of Indigenous-led business and its potential to transform industries,” said Des Nedhe CEO Sean Willy. “Ela Hultsi is not just a business endeavour; it’s a cultural bridge that brings together the best of two worlds, ensuring that our growth is inclusive and beneficial for all stakeholders involved.”

Launched in 1992, BGIS is an integrated facility management services company with more than 600 million square feet of client facilities under management globally. BGIS services the facilities with 10,500 of its own employees.

Outside of Canada, the company has offices in Sydney, Naples, Fla.; and London.

Ela Hultsi’s launch is already well underway with several significant projects already in the pipeline, said the partners.
