HTEC Opens New Hydrogen Refuelling Station in Vancouver

HTEC has opened a new hydrogen refuelling station in southeast Vancouver.

The new outlet is located on a 7-Eleven store property at 688 Southeast Marine Drive. The location is North Vancouver, B.C.-based HTEC’s sixth completed hydrogen refuelling station.

The site, developed in partnership with 7-Eleven Canada and powered by Cavendish Hydrogen equipment, marks another step in expanding British Columbia’s hydrogen infrastructure to support low-carbon transportation.

The new station is part of HTEC’s broader effort to establish Canada’s first network of hydrogen refuelling stations. The company’s existing stations are situated in the Lower Mainland, Kelowna, B.C., and on Vancouver Island.

“We’re excited to see this new station come online—it’s another step forward in building a hydrogen ecosystem to decarbonize the transportation sector that the HTEC team has been working toward for years,” said Colin Armstrong, HTEC president and CEO.

The Canada Infrastructure Bank is supported the project through a $337-million loan provided to HTEC in 2024. The financing is designed to expand and accelerate HTEC’s operations in B.C. and Alberta as the company seeks to build and operate an inter-provincial network of up to 20 hydrogen refuelling stations.

Funding also came from Natural Resources Canada and the CleanBC Go Electric Hydrogen Fueling Infrastructure Program—a partnership between the B.C. Ministry of Energy and Climate and the Canadian Hydrogen Association.

HTEC’s current station network has already dispensed more than 102,000 kilograms of hydrogen, supporting up to 300 hydrogen-powered electric vehicles in the province.

The new Vancouver location is part of 7-Eleven’s investment in hydrogen refuelling stations.

“Our expanding refuelling network is making alternative-energy options more accessible to our customers,” said Marc Goodman, vice-president and general Manager of 7-Eleven Canada.
