Iconic Log-structured Hotel Montebello Up For Sale
Fairmont Le Château (Hotel) Montebello, one of Eastern Canada’s most iconic resort properties, has been put up for sale through a court-supervised process.
The iconic 210-room resort-style hotel is recognized as the largest log structure in the world by the International Log Builders Association and the Historic Hotels of America.
Colliers is acting as exclusive advisor to PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), which was appointed receiver of Millennium Golden Jiachen Hotel Holdings and 4345118 Canada, and has launched a sale and investment-solicitation process (SISP) for the property.
The hotel is located on approximately 925 acres in Montebllo, Que., along the Ottawa River in Quebec’s Papineau region, about one hour from Ottawa and 90 minutes from Montreal. Originally completed in 1930, it operated as the private Seigniory Club retreat for four decades before opening to the public in 1970. The Fairmont brand was added in 2000 following the merger of Canadian Pacific Hotels and Fairmont Hotels & Resorts.
The offering includes the operating hotel, an 18-hole golf course designed by Stanley Thompson, a 100-slip marina, roughly 17,000 square feet of meeting and event space, five food-and-beverage outlets, a full-service spa, and about 685 acres of excess land with future development potential.
Approximately $17 million has been invested in capital improvements at the property between 2019 and 2025.
Non-binding letters of intent are due April 7, with definitive offers expected by May 13. The transaction is targeted to close during the week of July 27.
All inquiries related to the sale process are being handled by Colliers, with additional details available through the firm and PwC.\
