Kalesnikoff Opens North America’s First Mass Timber Prefab and Modular Plant
Kalesnikoff has opened North America’s first mass timber pre-fabrication and modular facility in Castlegar, B.C.
The 100,000-square-foot facility is located near the West Kootenay Regional Airport. Castlegar is a small town in the Kootenays region in southeastern B.C.
The plant’s products will be used in multi-storey affordable and market housing, schools, workforce housing and other much-needed infrastructure, said Kalesnikoff.
Krystle Seed, Kalesnikoff’s CFO, said the company invested $30 million in the project. Meanwhile, the B.C. and federal supplied $6.7 million and $3 million respectively.
Kalesnikoff said the new facility complements the company’s existing mass timber plant in the nearby South Slocan community.
A fourth-generation family-owned company, Kalesnikoff is based in the West Kootenay region.
