Loblaw Expanding Maxi Discount Grocery Chain into New Brunswick

Loblaw its bringing its Quebec-based Maxi discount grocery chain to New Brunswick for the first time with a new store set to open in Caraquet this fall.

The new 15,000-square-foot location, to be built at Place Saint-Pierre, marks Maxi’s first foray outside of Quebec. Construction is expected to begin in June, with the store creating about 30 new jobs upon opening.

“At Loblaw, we’re always looking for ways to bring value to more communities across Canada, and we believe Maxi offers a wonderful opportunity to do just that in Caraquet,” said Melanie Singh, president of Loblaw’s hard discount division. “The strong community values, francophone heritage, and thriving region resonate deeply with the DNA of the Maxi banner, and we look forward to being part of this community.”

The move is part of Loblaw’s broader strategy to expand access to small-footprint Maxi and No Frills stores across the country.
