Long-awaited Nobu Restaurant Set to Open in Toronto
A long-awaited Nobu restaurant is set to open in Toronto’s entertainment district.
Nobu Hospitality announced that the eatery, the company’s first in Canada, will open in early August. The opening will occur shortly before the start of the Toronto International Film Festival. The restaurant will be located at 25 Mercer Street, a block away from the film festival’s home, TIFF Light Box.
According to multiple reports, the restaurant opening has been in the works for years.
Following the restaurant launch, a Nobu Hotel will open its doors to guests in spring 2025.
The Nobu restaurant chain was founded in 1994 by chef Nobu Matsuhisa, famed actor Robert De Niro, and movie producer Meir Teper. The Toronto opening will continue a trend of celebrity-owned and branded restaurant launches across Canada in recent years.
The restaurant was designed by Toronto-based Studio Munge. According to a news release, the interior embodies a mix of Japanese-inspired design and Canadian craftsmanship.
The restaurant will span two floors and 10,000 square feet while offering 278 seats.
The ground floor will contain a sake bar and lounge, while the mezzanine level will comprise a restaurant bar and outdoor terrace. The second level will contain a 140-seat courtyard dining room, including a private tasting room; a sushi bar and a private dining room.
Nobu Hotel Toronto will be constructed atop the former Pilkington Glass Factory. The mixed-use development project is slated to include two multi-residential towers containing 660 units.
The hotel will be based in the west tower on floors 41 to 45.
Nobu operates restaurants across the globe. The company has hotels in the U.S., Spain, the U.K., Mexico, Greece and Poland.
New Nobu hotel openings are slated for Abu Dhabi and Thailand.
