Maclab to Construct MF Towers in Edmonton’s Mill Woods Area

Maclab Development Group is preparing to begin building a multi-family rental redevelopment project at Mill Woods Town Centre in southeast Edmonton.

The Edmonton-based company told Connect that construction will start on the project’s first phase in January. City council gave the first phase unanimous approval in September.

Plans call for the first phase to comprise a pair of 22-storey rental-apartment towers containing a total of 541 units. A mix of rental townhomes will be included in the project, which is slated for delivery in 2026.

Maclab acquired Mill Woods Town Centre in 2022 for the purpose of turning it into a transit-oriented development. The future multi-residential towers and townhomes will be located beside a future LRT station.

“We saw a unique opportunity to redevelop on the site given the connection to the LRT,” the company told Connect. “Additionally, we envision a future where Mill Woods Town Centre is a lively, transit-oriented community hub that offers more options for housing, employment, shopping and socializing in Mill Woods.

Synergy Group will serve as the project’s construction manager, while Diamond Schmitt provides architectural services.

“This is the first step in revitalizing this area of the city and the community of Mill Woods,” said Maclab.

Meanwhile, an unidentified grocery retailer will open a new store at Mill Woods Town Centre in 2025, Bill Blais, Maclab’s president and CEO, told Postmedia. The outlet will replace a Co-Op that closed in 2023.

But Maclab told Connect it is not ready to identify the grocery store operator.
