Major Calgary Redevelopment Project Moves Forward

Calgary city council has advanced a major mixed-use redevelopment project in the southeast to its next stage.

The long-term project’s land-use amendment application passed first reading with council giving its unanimous support.

Known as Midtown, the redevelopment is located in the city’s southeast and tied to a proposed new C-Train station that the property’s owner and developer, Cantana Investments, has pledged to fund. The 34-acre site is located southeast of Macleod and Glenmore trails in the Fisher Park area near Cadillac Fairview’s Chinook Centre mall. (Macleod and Glenmore trails are two major thoroughfares that intersect with each other near CF Chinook Centre.)

If all goes according to plan, Midtown will comprise 28 new buildings and include 6,200 housing units, along with specialty retail shops, hotels restaurants and bistros.

Arcadis IBI is serving as the project’s architect and submitted the land-use amendment application on behalf of Calgary-based Cantana.
