Master Group Opens LEED Gold Distribution Centre on Montreal’s South Shore

The Master Group has officially opened its new 300,000-square-foot eastern distribution centre in Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, Que.

Master ranks as Canada’s largest distributor of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC-R) systems, according to the company. Located on Montreal’s South Shore, the $12-million distribution centre is part of the Écoparc Saint-Bruno multi-industry complex built by Montoni.

The new LEED Gold-certified facility replaces Master’s previous eastern distribution centre in Boucherville, Que.

“The opening of our new eastern distribution centre marks a pivotal moment for the Master Group,” said John Kaul, Master’s president. “This state-of-the-art facility reflects our unwavering commitment to innovation, sustainability, and exceptional customer service. By investing in advanced technologies and expanding our capacity, we are not only supporting the growth of our business, but also ensuring we continue to deliver the highest standards of service across the Greater Montreal area and beyond.”

The new warehouse site also features an additional 75,000 sf of outdoor storage space.

The facility achieved its LEED Gold certification through multiple energy and water-conservation measures, including high-efficiency mechanical systems such as heat pumps. Heating consumption and cooling needs are expected to be reduced by 75% and 30% per year, respectively.

“Potable water use is minimized through a comprehensive system that collects, stores, and reuses rainwater, supplying 50% of the water required for plumbing fixtures,” said Master. “This approach not only underscores environmental responsibility, but sets a compelling benchmark for smart resource management in industrial facilities.”

The new facility also boasts several key improvements, including a concrete surface designed to prevent future deformation, LEED Gold-certified doors and docks, and an ergonomic loading room enhanced by 5G technology. Interior features include double-deep pallet storage, more visible and safer traffic corridors, while the outdoor storage space contains a concrete slab for easier circulation.

New warehouse equipment and pallet jacks will improve productivity, while expanded loading and shipping docks will ensure greater efficiency, according to Master.

The building also contains solar panels, a green roof and greenhouse, a multi-sports track, relaxation areas and docking doors while offering convenient accessibility via public transport.

All features are designed to promote well-being and functionality, said Master.
