Mastermind Toys Opens First Quebec Location in Downtown Montreal

Mastermind Toys has opened a new store in downtown Montreal, marking the chain’s expansion into Quebec.

The two-level store is located within Cours Mont-Royal. According to a published report, the space encompasses 6,900 square feet.

The opening comes after Unity Acquisitions ensured the financially troubled chain’s survival earlier this year by purchasing the business for an undisclosed price and bringing it out of creditor protection.

Unity agreed to purchase most of Mastermind’s assets in December. The Ontario Superior Court of Justice Commercial List assigned numerous property leases and other contracts to Unity in conjunction with the deal’s closure.

Toronto-based Mastermind filed for bankruptcy protection under the Companies’ Creditor Protection Act in 2024 and received court permission to close 18 stores which were not included in the deal.

Unity is owned by prominent Canadian retail investors Joe MimranFrank Rocchetti and David Lui. The company’s portfolio includes Kit and Ace and Casca Footwear stores.
