Mattamy, Truman to Develop 1,900 Homes in Chestermere
Mattamy Homes and Truman have partnered to develop a new 253-acre master-planned community in the Calgary bedroom community of Chestermere, Alta., that will deliver about 1,900 homes.
The family-owned builders closed the land deal in January and plan a mix of single-family, semi-detached and townhomes, as well as multi-family apartment buildings, commercial retail space, parkland, more than 10 acres of environmental reserve and two landscaped storm ponds.
“Chestermere is an exciting market for us, and we’re pleased to be returning after a decade away,” said Collin Campbell, president of Mattamy’s Alberta division. “This partnership allows us to combine Truman’s strong local presence with our experience delivering well-planned communities across Alberta. It’s a rare opportunity to shape a neighbourhood together and bring even more choice to future homebuyers.”
Located south of Chestermere Lake, with Rainbow Road to the west and Township Road 240 along the south, the community is designed to provide convenient access to Calgary, major employment hubs and a lake-oriented lifestyle centred on Chestermere Lake.
Mattamy’s Alberta division and Truman will co-manage the development, with Mattamy acting as managing partner. The project marks Mattamy’s return to Chestermere after a decade, while Truman brings decades of local experience dating back to its first Chestermere development in 1988.
“We’re pleased to partner with Mattamy on a project of this scale and significance,” said George Trutina, president of Truman. “Chestermere has been an important part of our story for many years, dating back to our earliest developments in the community in the late 1980s, including being the first developer to construct an asphalt road with streetlights in the early 1990s. This collaboration strengthens what we can offer the city and its residents. Working alongside Mattamy also opens the door to future opportunities where our shared values can continue to benefit the community.”
Development approvals are expected in spring 2027, with home construction anticipated to begin in summer 2028. The first residents are projected to move in during early 2029, and full buildout is expected by late 2039.
Truman is also developing four new hotels in and around Calgary’s Stampede Park, the city’s exhibition grounds which are undergoing significant redevelopments that include a new arena for the NHL’s Calgary Flames and the city’s other leading sports teams.
