Mercedes-Benz, BGO Collaborate on New Metro Vancouver EV Charging Hubs
Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging has launched its Canadian public EV-charging network with the opening of three fast-charging hubs in Metro Vancouver, the first phase of an eight-site rollout planned for the region.
The initial locations are in Abbotsford, Pitt Meadows, and Tsawwassen. The network aims to remove one of the biggest friction points for EV drivers: Connector compatibility. Each site uses ultra-fast chargers capable of delivering up to 400 kilowatts and is configured so that every stall can serve virtually any modern EV regardless of brand. The future sites will deploy the same vehicle-agnostic charging system. Under optimal conditions, compatible vehicles can add roughly 300 kilometres of range in about 10 minutes.
“Launching our first Canadian hub demonstrates how Mercedes-Benz is redefining the charging experience,” said Heiko Schmit, president and CEO of both Mercedes-Benz HPC North America and Mercedes-Benz HPC Canada. “With our new design, every stall supports every vehicle—no adapters, no barriers—reflecting our commitment to simplicity, reliability, and access for all. It’s an important step in building the infrastructure EV ownership demands while strengthening the public charging network in Canada.”
Andreas Tetzloff CEO of Mercedes-Benz Canada, said the network is designed to serve Mercedes-Benz customers from the time they purchase their vehicles to every charging stop along the way. The network is also intended to serve all other EV drivers.
“This network extends the Mercedes-Benz experience, ensuring that whether you’re driving one of our EV models or any other EV, you have access to premium infrastructure that makes electric-vehicle ownership seamless,” he said.
The full network will span key retail and travel destinations across Greater Vancouver and southern B.C., including sites in Coquitlam, Nanaimo, Penticton, Squamish, Surrey, and Tsawwassen at B.C. billionaire Ruby Liu’s Tsawwassen Mills mall. Four of the hubs are being developed with BGO Properties, which is integrating the charging infrastructure into high-traffic commercial centres as a long-term amenity for tenants and visitors.
“As property managers, our role is to create environments that are future-proofed and responsive to the evolving needs of our visitors and communities,” said Michelle Brown, head of BGO Properties. “We’re thrilled to partner with Mercedes-Benz to introduce high-speed EV charging to our properties, enhancing the experience for tenants and EV drivers with a convenient, innovative amenity that supports more sustainable travel.”
Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging North America is the automaker’s infrastructure arm, created to design, build, and operate a continent-wide network of premium public charging hubs. The business applies Mercedes-Benz standards for reliability, safety, and customer experience, and is extending a model already established across the United States into the Canadian market, said the company.
The charging equipment is supplied by Alpitronic, a European manufacturer known for high-power DC fast chargers. Its Hypercharger technology forms the backbone of the Metro Vancouver network, enabling multiple connector types at each stall and supporting the fastest charging speeds available today.
“Partnering with Mercedes-Benz to bring Alpitronic’s first charging stations to Canada is a significant milestone for us,” said Mike Doucleff, president of Alpitronic Americas. “The HYC 400 platform represents the cutting edge of charging technology, and we’re proud to see it deployed across British Columbia. The advanced capabilities and four-cable design perfectly align with Mercedes-Benz’s vision of creating a truly inclusive charging network. We’re excited to support Canadian EV drivers with technology built for the future.”
Alpitronic said its North American strategy is focused on translating its European leadership into a strong presence in Canada and the U.S. by deploying reliable, future-ready fast-charging systems that can support the next generation of electric vehicles.
Mercedes-Benz said the Canadian rollout builds on its U.S. network of more than 650 charging stalls and positions the company to support newer EV platforms with higher-voltage architectures and significantly shorter charging times.
