Miniso Opens Largest Canadian Store at West Edmonton Mall

Chinese retailer Miniso has opened its largest Canadian store at West Edmonton Mall.

Miniso leased a 12,000-square-foot space formerly occupied by Urban Outfitters. The new outlet is Canada’s first Miniso Land-concept store.

Unlike typical Miniso stores, which range from 1,200 to 2,500 square feet and carry a curated selection of top-selling items, Miniso Land offers what is described as an immersive retail theme park experience based on specific intellectual properties. The themes and store layout change periodically.

Miniso said the first version of the store features a “striking train-themed façade,” symbolizing the chain’s The Greatest Fun Journey theme, “bringing a world of global IP collaborations and endless joy to Edmonton.”

The store’s offerings include a wide array of IP products, from plush toys and lifestyle essentials to beauty items. Customers can “enjoy exploring the store’s vibrant themed zones and discover delightful finds that bring fun and inspiration to everyday life.”

The store’s multiple themed zones include international IP collections from as Sanrio (including Hello Kitty), Disney (Stitch, Winnie the Pooh), and Harry Potter, alongside Miniso’s owned IPs Gift Bear & Friends and YOYO. The Hello Kitty Pop Star series, Sanrio Fox Island series, and Sanrio Animal Adventure series vinyl plush surprise box are all debuting in Canada.

The store launch is part of Miniso’s broader Canadian expansion effort. Miniso now operates stores in Toronto, Ottawa, and Vancouver. More stores are planned for key Canadian cities, the company said.
