Modine Opens New Cooling Equipment Plant in Calgary

Modine has opened a new cooling-equipment manufacturing plant in Calgary designed to cater to growing data-centre demand.

Racine, Wisc.-based Modine is a global leader in thermal management technology. The company said the new 250,000-square-foot facility is particularly geared towards data-centre clients active in the expanding hyperscale market.

The plant manufactures Airedale by Modine precision cooling equipment.

“We are excited to open this new facility in Calgary in support of our global expansion strategy,” said Eric McGinnis, president of climate solutions at Modine. “Following the recent announcement of the opening of our facility in Bradford, U.K., we are well-positioned to serve data-centre customers worldwide. With the full range of Airedale by Modine technologies, customers have a one-stop shop for mission-critical cooling solutions.”

The Calgary facility marks a significant addition to Modine’s production capabilities and expands its global reach said the company.

In February, Modine acquired Calgary-based Scott Springfield Manufacturing and immediately began developing this third manufacturing site to supply advanced air handling units for hyperscale data centres. With additional manufacturing operations in Spain, the U.K., and the United States, Modine now has an expanded network to support a wide range of cooling needs, the company said.

Javier Vazquez, Modine’s general manager, said the Calgary site was developed rapidly.

“Earlier this year, Modine committed to expanding capacity and driving growth in the data-centre equipment market,” he said. “It’s impressive to see such a quick operational turnaround from the planning stages to execution and setup of the new facility. The team involved did an amazing job to get us to this point.”

The first units from the new Calgary facility are expected to be delivered by the end of 2024.
