Moncton City Council Advances Plans for 14,000 Homes on Vision Lands

Moncton, N.B., city council has advanced the proposed Vision Lands development that could ultimately support about 14,000 new homes.

Council’s decision advanced a secondary plan that is going through the approval process, according to The Moncton Times & Transcript.. The plan is due to come before council again on February 17.

The Vision Lands comprise 570 acres of vacant land north of Wheeler Boulevard and bounded by McLaughlin Road to the east, the TransCanada Highway to the north, and Mapleton Road to the west.

The proposed development includes a mix of low-, mid- and high-density residential development. Plans also call for recreational facilities, a fire station, big-box stores and service businesses, the Times & Transcript reported.

The proposed project includes three precincts: Vision West, Vision East and the Université de Moncton Precinct. The proposed secondary plan outlines the type of streets, buildings and other infrastructure regulations for developers, according to the Times & Transcript.

Following the Feb. 17 presentation before council, a public hearing will be held April 7.
