MUJI to Open New Store at Tsawwassen Mills
Japanese retailer MUJI will open a new Canadian store at Ruby Liu’s Tsawwassen Mills mall in Delta, B.C., on Saturday, March 21.
The mall is located in the community of Tsawwassen near the B.C. Ferries terminal of the same name and a Canada-U.S. border crossing. Liu failed in her quest to acquire leases tied to closed Hudson’s Bay Company department stores across Canada in 2025 as a result of an Ontario court decision.
The Tsawwassen location will carry MUJI Canada’s full range of products, from kitchen and home goods to apparel basics and travel items. The 10,802-square-foot store features a marketplace layout designed for easy navigation and a seamless shopping experience, said the retailer.
“Expanding our presence in British Columbia has been a strategic priority for us driven by strong customer demand and a desire to be closer to the communities we serve,” said Richard Rappaport, president of MUJI Canada. “Opening at Tsawwassen allows us to engage more closely with Canadian customers and local partners while delivering a MUJI experience that feels thoughtfully rooted in the community.”
This marks MUJI’s first store opening in British Columbia since 2020, joining existing locations in Burnaby, Richmond, and Vancouver. It follows the retailer’s recent arrival at The Well in Toronto last fall. MUJI emphasises community engagement through local initiatives and partnerships, with a commitment to respecting the Tsawwassen First Nation land on which the Tsawwassen store is located.
Liu operates the mall under a long-term lease.
Founded in Japan in 1980, MUJI is a global retailer offering high-quality, simple products across categories, including homewares, fashion, wellness, and more.
