New Farm Boy Store Opens at Brightwater in Port Credit

A Farm Boy grocery store has opened within the new 72-acre Brightwater community in the Port Credit area of Mississauga, Ont.

Brightwater is being developed by Port Credit Village West Partners. Located at 175 Lakeshore Drive West, the new Farm Boy is the chain’s first Mississauga store.

“We’re delighted to bring such a beloved grocery brand to our residents and the Port Credit community,” said Christina Giannone, vice-president of planning and development for PCWVP, in a news release. “Brightwater is delivering on its promise of being a walkable community, with a thoughtfully curated retail mix, featuring daily essentials, cafés, restaurants and more.”

Ottawa-based Farm Boy falls under the ownership of the Stellarton, N.S.-based Empire Company, which also owns and operates the Sobeys, FreshCo and Voilà grocery store chains.

The new Farm Boy becomes the anchor tenant in Brightwater’s full suite of retail offerings.

Other retail tenants include Rexall, Bone & Biscuit, Port Credit Village Dental and the Bank of Montreal.

COBS Bread Bakery, Pop On Nails, D Spot Dessert Café, and the Liquor Control Board of Ontario will also open outlets at Brightwater.

The award-winning, master-planned community is designed to revitalize the Port Credit waterfront. The mixed-use development project will contain 300,000 square feet of new retail, commercial and office spaces, including a new village square flanked by pedestrian mews and piazzas.

Housing options are intended for individuals and families at all stages of life.

“With many units currently under construction and residents now moving into the community, Brightwater continues to take shape,” said PCWVP.

Brightwater broke ground in October 2021. The development’s newest phase is Bridge House, which includes three towers with a shared amenity deck featuring Port Credit’s first rooftop swim spa.

Bridge House includes studio, one- and two-bedroom units.

Brightwater’s residential component includes affordable housing.
