New Food Basics Store Opens in Mississauga

Food Basics has opened the doors to its newest location in Mississauga, Ont.

This is the first of seven planned Food Basics store openings across Ontario in 2025.

The new Mississauga store is the discount grocery chain’s seventh outlet in the Toronto suburb. The new store, located at 4152 Confederation Parkway, spans about 29,000 square feet and has created 85 new jobs, according to the company.

“Food Basics is always looking for opportunities to expand, and we are excited to grow in a dynamic community like Mississauga,” said John Manax, the chain’s vice-president of operations. “No matter where you live, people are always looking for ways to save on quality products. Residents who may be first-time shoppers at Food Basics will get to know us as a discount grocer that is a reliable source for always fresh, always in-stock, healthy food at always great prices.”

Situated on the ground level of the newly built Parkside condominium project, the store features a contemporary design with an urban feel, budget-friendly brands, locally sourced products, and an extensive international foods section, said the company.

Food Basics falls under the ownership of Quebec-based grocer Metro.

As part of its commitment to the community, Food Basics is donating $5,000 to Food Banks Mississauga, which is affiliated with Feed Ontario.

Food Basics falls under the ownership of Quebec-based Metro.

The parent company previously announced plans to open 12 new discount grocery stores altogether in 2025, including several locations converted from full-priced brands.

The expansion comes as Canadian grocers are opening more outlets under discount banners amid growing public and government scrutiny of inflation and challenges to food affordability.

Montreal-based Metro operates discount grocery chains Super C in Quebec and Food Basics in Ontario.
