New REMAX Commercial Excel Brokerage Opens in Edmonton
REMAX Canada has announced the sale and opening of REMAX Commercial Excel, a dedicated commercial brokerage created through the expansion of Edmonton-based franchise REMAX Excellence.
Co-Broker/Owners Don Patterson and Sam Narayan, leaders of the top REMAX commercial team globally for the past three years, are expanding their footprint with the new brokerage, marking a milestone for REMAX Commercial in one of Canada’s fastest-growing economic regions.
Don Kottick, REMAX Canada’s president and CEO, told Connect that the opening of the Edmonton brokerage will serve as a springboard as REMAX prepares to expand its new, dedicated commercial-brokerage division, known as REMAX Commercial, across Canada. The Remax Commercial Excel comes after Kottick hired industry leader Damon Conrad away from Royal LePage Commercial after he had its launch and greatly expanded its profile.
“He’s getting his plan all in order,” said Kottick. “But during this time, [Patterson] and [Narayan] in Edmonton have built a very strong commercial unit. They had been running it out at a residential division, and now they’ve gone and created a standalone commercial operation within the Edmonton market.”
The REMAX Commercial Excel opening foreshadows what REMAX Canada is going to do with its commercial division across the country, he added.
“But once we get the plan in place, which we’re anticipating probably late April, May, this just really gives us a nice, strong foundation to build upon,” said Kottick. “And, both Don and Sam are very respected, not only in the Edmonton commercial market, but outside in the whole commercial realm where you operate.”
REMAX Commercial Excel will operate alongside REMAX Excellence, which currently has 245 agents, including 20 commercial specialists who will transition to the new brokerage.

“We’re seeing that the top-performing commercial team in the world, the professionals there, are choosing to build a more focused, dedicated commercial platform inside of REMAX by creating a standalone location,” said Conrad in an interview with Connect. “And, that’s exactly the direction that we’re going to be supporting nationally so that you can have standalone commercial franchises if your market and the brokerage supports it. But you will also be able to have, inside our residential brokerages, commercial advisors and specialists.”
Narayan will lead REMAX Commercial Excel, while Patterson will continue as broker for REMAX Excellence. Patterson said the launch of REMAX Commercial Excel will build on the momentum that REMAX Excellence has built over the past three years while becoming the top REMAX commercial team worldwide.
“By combining a pure commercial platform with the vast referral network of REMAX residential agents, we’re creating a competitive advantage that the big commercial shops simply don’t have,” said Patterson.
The expansion is expected to create additional referral opportunities for local REMAX residential agents, enhancing their ability to serve clients with commercial needs. Patterson added that the team has benefited from the support of REMAX Commercial Canada, including access to a national network, branding, market updates and key platforms.
The new brokerage is positioned to enhance visibility in the Edmonton market, strengthen the credibility of its commercial agents and further differentiate the team from competitors, according to REMAX Canada.
