Ottawa McDonald’s Closes its Doors

A former McDonald’s franchise in downtown Ottawa is slated to become an Asian restaurant.

The McDonald’s at 99 Rideau Street in the Byward Market area closed its doors in 2023. The new unidentified tenant signed a 10-year lease, Kevin Houlahan, a Colliers sales representative who brokered the deal, told the Ottawa Business Journal.

The forthcoming Asian restaurant’s owner is a chef with more than 15 years of experience and “well-known in the Asian community for his exceptional culinary work in Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa,” Houlahan told the OBJ. And, the restaurant is a partnership between the chef and a Toronto-based group.

The property will be renovated and is slated to open in summer 2024.
