Pattison Invests in Future-Ready Grocery Fulfillment Operations in Langley

The Pattison Food Group has installed advanced automation technologies at its 485,000-square-foot grocery fulfillment centre in Langley, B.C.

The automated system is designed to improve split-case fulfillment, increase storage capacity and enhance order accuracy while supporting the company’s nine grocery banners, including Save-On-Foods, PriceSmart Foods and Quality Foods, said Pattison. The project also reduces manual handling, supports reusable tote-based sustainability initiatives and provides scalability as consumer demand evolves.

The facility incorporates Atlanta-based Dematic’s software suite for warehouse orchestration, a RapidPick system and a nine-aisle Multishuttle system with nearly 62,000 automated storage locations. It also supports approximately 11,000 grocery SKUs through 16 goods-to-person workstations, alongside integrated decant, conveyor, sortation, tote-handling, buffering and sequencing systems.

“Dematic’s strength extends beyond automation to a deep understanding of the operational realities shaping modern grocery fulfillment,” said Mike Olson, senior vice-president of supply chain and wholesale at the Pattison Food Group. “That expertise helped us build a scalable, intelligent operation that improves performance today while supporting the flexibility needed for future growth.”

In a news release, Dematic described the fulfillment operations as future-ready. Alexandre Guiard, Dematic’s senior vice-president of business solutions for the Americas, said the partnership with Pattison reflects a shared commitment to building intelligent fulfillment operations where software, automation and operational intelligence serve as “the mind behind the machine,” improving service levels, increasing operational confidence and supporting long-term growth.

The Pattison Food Group is a subsidiary of the Vancouver-based Jim Pattison Group, a conglomerate that holds numerous commercial real estate assets across a wide array of industries throughout B.C., the rest of Canada and the U.S. The Jim Pattison Group was created in 1961 by legendary Vancouver-based billionaire Jimmy Pattison, who originally made his fortune selling automobiles.
