PBA-developed Westin Hotel Slated to Open This Summer

A new Westin-branded hotel developed by the PBA Group of Companies is getting set to open in downtown Calgary.

The Element by Westin Calgary Downtown will open early this summer. Located along Fourth Avenue S.W., the site will become the first completed conversion of a former office building into a hotel under the city’s Downtown Development Incentive Program (DIP).

“As Calgary’s first hospitality conversion, the Element embodies the spirit of transforming existing spaces to serve new, meaningful purposes,” said Patricia Phillips, CEO of Calgary-based PBA, in a news release.

Under DIP, developers receive funding from the city to help reduce a surplus of older, increasingly obsolete office buildings. DIP is largely deployed to help boost multi-family rental supply, but the program also includes office conversions into hotels and other asset types.

PBA specializes in hotel investment and development. The award-winning company also owns, develops and manages other commercial real estate, including industrial and retail.
