  • Redberry Restaurants has appointed a new team to drive the expansion of Jersey Mike’s submarine sandwich shop franchises in Canada., Toronto-based Redberry will develop 300 Jersey Mike’s franchises in Canada over the next 10 years. Paul Pascal will serve as director of operations for Jersey Mike’s Prior to joining Redberry, he served with Aegis Brands, leading a brand review and =hospitality-focused business model implementation for Bridgehead Coffee Company and Second Cup Coffee Co. He also oversaw the East Side Mario’s brand for Recipe Unlimited. Stephen Scarrow will serve as the Jersey Mike’s senior marketing manager. He previously served as a senior marketing manager at leading quick-service restaurants. Darryl McMaster will serve as the Jersey Mike’s district manager for newly acquired locations in Kitchener, Ont., and London, Ont. Kim Birns will serve as the Jersey Mike’s training manager, while former Starbucks executive Jack Belardi will serve as real estate manager. Johan Malmqvist will manage construction. He previously managed projects for PCL and Chandos. Jay Haynes, Dian Carlos and Dona Raji have been named general managers and will oversee the Jersey Mike’s locations’ daily operations,
  • Encor Advisors has appointed Jeff Howell to the newly created position of chief growth officer. Howell will oversee the Toronto-based commercial real estate brokerage firm’s expansion initiatives, deploying innovative strategies and state-of-the-art technology forms. Encor specializes in tenant representation. He will help Encor get a better sense of office tenants’ intentions amid evolving hybrid work patterns and gain traction in the pervasively hot industrial market, Encor President Rob Renaud told Connect. Howell will also help Encor capitalize on its ISO 9001:2015 certification, which is a globally recognized standard for quality management. He joins Renaud after hosting the Home Health podcast and serving as director of growth at Toronto-based AlayaCare. He has also co-founded his own company, Nidea Corporate Real Estate, and served as vice-president of sales with Devencore, a Montreal-based company that is now part of Avison Young. Encor is an offshoot of Devencore’s former Ontario business, which a group led by Renaud acquired and rebranded.
  • CarbiCrete has hired Andrée Pinard as its new CFO. Previously, Pinard held senior positions at BMO/Nesbitt Burns, CSL Group, Intact Insurance and most recently, Cogeco, where she finished up as vice-president of investor relations and treasurer. During the past 10 years at Cogeco, she financed the company’s expansion in the United States, spurring a significant increase in revenue. CarbiCrete specializes in concrete decarbonization. Pinard’s appointment comes after the company named Jacob Homiller as its new CEO. Homiller joined CarbiCrete after he held senior executive and management roles with A.W. Chesterton, Cabot Corporation, and Bain & Company. He succeeded co-founder Chris Stern, who has remained with CarbiCrete as a strategic advisor.
  • Tim Ayres has been elected as chair of the B.C. Real Estate Association. Ayres is a realtor based in Sooke, B.C., and focuses on residential sales on Vancouver Island. He has volunteered with the Victoria Real Estate Board since 2006 and is a former Canadian Real Estate Association board member. He becomes one of the BCREA’s officers, along with chair-elect Chris Shields of Macdonald Realty, past chair Darren Close of Re/Max Generation and Trevor Koot, the BCREA’s chief executive. Meanwhile, Daniel John of Richmond was elected as a new realtor director and Andy Pham of Vancouver becomes a new public director. Ruth Hanson (Vancouver), Kim Heizmann (Kelowna), Darcy McLeod (Vancouver), Ashley Smith (Vancouver) and Robert Wood (Kelowna) return as realtor directors. The returning public directors are Catherine Aczel Boivie (Vancouver) and Amanda Magee (Vancouver).
  • Devon McAndrews has joined Canada ICI Capital as associate director of mortgage origination in Vancouver. McAndrews moves to Canada ICI after two years with Coast Capital Savings in Vancouver, where he served as a commercial real estate manager and associated.
  • Altus Group has nominated Thomas Warsop for election as a director. The election will be held during the Toronto-based real estate analytics firm’s annual general meeting in May. Warsop recently transitioned from chair to president and CEO at ACI Worldwide, one of the world’s largest payment-solution providers. During his career, he has led portfolio companies for several leading private-equity firms, including One Call Care Management, York Risk Services Group, and the Warranty Group. He has also served as a vice-president at Fiserv and vice-president of global financial serves as Electronic Data Systems.
