  • Gowling WLG has appointed Julie Lanteigne as the new leader of its Canadian real estate practice group. Lanteigne advises clients on has advised clients on various areas of commercial real estate, including leasing, sales, acquisitions and property management. Lanteigne succeeds Joe Camley. Camley is based in the firm’s Vancouver office. Gowling said Lanteigne, based in Montreal, will work closely with counterparts overseas to explore innovative strategies that enhance the law firm’s comprehensive real estate services. Lanteigne joined Gowling in 2020 from Lapointe Rosenstein Marchand Melançon and became an associate partner in 2022 before receiving her latest promotion. She has also served as a litigator for Oxford Properties.
  • Equiton has announced a new real estate research project with Concordia University’s John Molson School of Business. The partnership is designed to support innovative research into Canada’s real estate investment landscape. Erkan Yönder, a Concordia associate professor of real estate and finance, will lead the research efforts in collaboration with Toronto-based Equiton. The private-equity firm strives to provide easy access to all types of investment-grade real estate through proven high-performing investment solutions. The company also aims to offer true diversification, full transparency, and all the benefits of real estate investing without the difficulties of financing, tenant management, building maintenance or project management.
  • Atwill-Morin has donated $100,000 to Montreal’s Welcome Hall Mission to help curb homelessness. Montreal-based Atiwll-Morin made the donation by purchasing land from Welcome Hall. Atwill-Morin acquired land posthumously donated to the mission by the estate of a citizen of Havelock in the Montérégie region. The financial support, to be spread over five years, will help support the organization’s mission, which helps transform the lives of many people in precarious situations, said Matthew Atwill-Morin, the firm’s CEO. Welcome Hall seeks to help by offering a host of direct services ranging from nutritious meals to the acquisition of social and professional skills and recovery through community integration. The company provides masonry contracting, stone restoration and repair services to the real estate sector.
  • Cineplex, has been chosen to create, install, and maintain a digital signage network in five shopping centres managed by Cominar REIT in Quebec. The company will provide the services through its Cineplex Digital Media (CDM) division. Cineplex Media will manage indoor advertising sales within the shopping centres. The partnership expands Cineplex Media’s reach in the Greater Montreal Area to about 117 million shoppers annually and approximately 750 million shoppers nationwide. Cineplex said The collaboration entails the operation of more than 40 digital displays across Cominar’s properties in Montreal, Laval, Brossard, and Repentigny. The digital-signage deployment is slated for early summer.
  • Fengate Asset Management has made three leadership appointments within its real estate business. Jaime McKenna has been promoted to president of Fengate Real Estate. She formerly served as managing director and head of the real estate arm. The commercial industry veteran joined Fengate in 2019 from Minto Capital, where she served as senior vice-president of finance iand investments. Alison Kimmell has been appointed head of real estate development and portfolio management. Kimmell’s appointment follows her successful tenure at Hines Toronto, where she spearheaded the development of CIBC Square, a three-million-square-foot downtown Toronto office complex. Colin Catherwood has been promoted to managing director of real estate investments. He moved up from his former role as Fengate’s senior vice-president of investment. Prior to joining Fengate in 2020, he held progressively senior investment leadership roles at Graywood, Welltower and Brookfield Financial.
