- Cadillac Fairview has appointed Marco Ding as executive vice-president of investments. Ding will oversee Toronto-based CF’s real estate investments across Canada. He moved to CF from the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, where he was a founding member of the organization’s real estate program and most recently served as the head of Canadian and South American properties. Prior to spending 18 years with CPPIB, he worked as an analyst in the real estate investment banking group at TD Securities. He has more than 20 years of investment experience in Canada and internationally.
- QuadReal will host the final summer portrait session at its Oakridge Park development on Vancouver’s west side on September 1-2. The photograph sessions will benefit the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation. Oakridge Park is the new name for the former Oakridge shopping centre, which QuadReal and Westbank are redeveloping as part of a five-year project that includes an overhaul of the retail component and the construction of a number of multi-residential buildings. The project has sparked many new commercial real estate ventures, including multi-family developments, in the Oakridge neighbourhood.
- Tribe Property Technologies has rebranded its recently acquired DMSI Holdings subsidiary as DMS. All of DMSI’s various service divisions are also operating under the DMS label. To strengthen its presence across Canada, Tribe has also begun to expand DMS offerings to Tribe’s customer base of strata and condominium corporations, investor-owners and property developers. Tribes says that it is now the second-argest multi-family rental management company in Canada. The firm’s portfolio spans 19,000 units and 22 million square feet, in addition to more than 40,000 strata and condo units managed nationally.
- The Ontario Real Estate Association has appointed Sonia Richards as interim CEO. The move comes after Tim Hudak announced his resignation earlier this year following seven years at OREA’s helm. Richards is OREA’s current chief of staff and board strategy. OREA’s board will use this time to seek Hudak’s successor in advance of the next phase of modernizing OREA’s operations. Hudak began the modernization before he left the organization August 2. The board has launched a comprehensive internal and external search for Hudak’s successor, who will lead OREA through the next phase of innovation in real estate. As interim CEO, Richard will manage OREA’s day-to-day functions in addition to her duties as chief of staff and board strategy.
- Greystar has appointed John Wilbeck as head of the company’s Canadian business. Charleston, S.C.-based Greystar is a global leader in the investment, development, and management of high-quality rental housing. Based in Vancouver, Wilbeck has been tasked with expanding Greystar’s development and market presence in Canada, says the company. He is also responsible for ensuring the successful execution of business strategies and practices that meet the firm’s financial, investment, and operational objectives. Wilbeck joined Greystar in 2021 and has overseen the company’s expansion into Canada and and development projects across the country. He previously he served as a managing director at Hines, where he was responsible for sourcing and executing development projects in Western Canada. He led the development activities on approximately 1,000 units and about one million square feet of office space development.
- Trez Capital has relocated its western U.S. originations operations to Phoenix. The relocation supports the Vancouver-based firm’s $1.1-billion loan commitments in the Phoenix market and aligns with regional growth and business development, said Trez. In addition, Clive Millar, a company vice-president and global head of asset management, has moved to Dallas from the Vancouver office. Millar’s move is designed to strengthen oversight of projects across the U.S. Sunbelt, improving management of construction, bridge loans and equity investments.
