- The Real Estate Foundation of BC has appointed Anthony Bastiaanssen as the chair of the board of governors for 2024-25. He is a realtor and managing broker based in the Okanagan Valley and has held numerous governance roles in the real estate sector, including chair of the BC Real Estate Association and president of the Okanagan Mainland Real Estate Board. He currently sits on the Canadian Real Estate Association board.
- The federal government has appointed Teresa Goldstein and Jennifer Keesmaat to the National Housing Council. Goldstein has had a distinguished career in urban planning – specializing in community development, affordability, and growth – and has made extensive contributions to regional planning initiatives, said the federal housing ministry in a news release. Keesmaat is a globally recognized leader in urban planning, housing, and the development of complete communities. She has worked with cities around the world to promote sustainable and inclusive community planning while also providing expert guidance to national governments on every continent.
- Cadillac Fairview has appointed Marco Ding as executive vice-president of investments. Ding supervises Toronto-based CF’s real estate investments across Canada. He moved to CF from the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, where he was a founding member of the organization’s real estate program and most recently served as the head of Canadian and South American properties. Prior to spending 18 years with CPPIB, he worked as an analyst in the real estate investment banking group at TD Securities. He has more than 20 years of investment experience in Canada and internationally.
- Toyota Canada has donated $500,000 to Providence Healthcare in Scarborough, Ont., to renovate its motor skills clinic. The investment will support the modernization of the existing Toyota Canada Motor Skills facility to further enhance the clinic’s program delivery. The project is slated to incorporate new technologies that will create a leading-edge facility over the next two years.
- The Ontario Real Estate Association has appointed Sonia Richards as interim CEO. The move comes after Tim Hudak announced his resignation earlier this year following seven years at OREA’s helm. Richards is OREA’s current chief of staff and board strategy. OREA’s board will use this time to seek Hudak’s successor in advance of the next phase of modernizing OREA’s operations. Hudak began the modernization before he left the organization August 2. The board has launched a comprehensive internal and external search for Hudak’s successor, who will lead OREA through the next phase of innovation in real estate. As interim CEO, Richard will manage OREA’s day-to-day functions in addition to her duties as chief of staff and board strategy.
