  • Mark Carney has resigned from Brookfield Asset Management, officially beginning his quest to become Canada’s next prime minister. CEO Bruce Flatt has replaced Carney as board chair and will handle both duties. Carney had also headed Brookfield’s global-transition investment program. Brookfield said President Connor Teskey and his team will continue to steer transition-investing activities. Carney, a former Bank of Canada and Bank of England, has entered the federal Liberal leadership race as part of his bid to become Canada’s next prime minister. The Liberals are seeking a replacement for PM Justin Trudeau, who announced his resignation pending the March 9 outcome of the party’s leadership vote.
  • Cushman & Wakefield has promoted Sean McCrorie to vice-chairman. For the past five years, he has served as a vice-president and practice leader for the the Toronto-based firm’s seniors housing and healthcare advisory group. McCrorie is expected to continue to lead the group. Prior to joining C&W in 2020, he spent two years as a manager with Altus Group in Toronto. He has also served as director of corporate development for Leisureworld Senior Care LP and as an analyst with Macquarie’s infrastructure group.
  • Five real estate and construction-related business are among the latest recipients of the Order of Ontario. Rudolph Bratty was recognized for his impact on real estate development. He is a founding partner of Brattys LLP and founder of the Remington Group. His work includes residential communities, commercial properties, and the transformative Downtown Markham project, which revitalized the area with 10,000 residents and 16,000 employees. Nick Di Donato restored such Ontario landmarks as Casa Loma and Liberty Grand into world-reknown venues. In collaboration with the City of Toronto, he created a premium dining and members’ club in Union Station’s east wing. As chief operating officer at the firm now known as Stantec, Karakatsanis has led professional engineering associations at provincial, national, and global levels. She is the first woman president of the International Federation of Consulting Engineering in its 110-year history. Jennifer Suess, the first general counsel at RioCan, founded the Women’s Initiative Network to promote women in commercial real estate. Her charitable efforts have raised more than $20 million for causes like the Hospital for Sick Children, advancing health care access across Canada. Kevin Junor, a retired military captain, has been credited with leadership and advocacy for diversity efforts that have left a lasting impact. As the first Black regimental sergeant major of the Toronto Scottish Regiment, he played a key role in the federal apology to the descendants of No. 2 Construction Battalion, Canada’s historic all-Black battalion.
  • Kalos, a boutique financial due diligence and valuation firm, has appointed Peter Kim as its newest director. Kim will lead the firm’s new Vancouver office. He brings more than 15 years of experience in financial due diligence, restructuring, transaction advisory services, and auditing across Canada, the U.K., and Australia. He has advised on mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures across various industries, including industrial markets, energy, consumer products, infrastructure, healthcare, and financial services. Before joining Kalos, Kim served as was a director in transaction advisory services at RSM Canada and held senior advisory roles at KPMG Canada and KPMG U.K. Calgary-based Kalos assists clients in navigating the complexities of acquisitions, divestitures, and capital raises.
  • RESAAS has appointed Jessica Toppazzini to its advisory board. Toppazzini most recently served as a principal of Avison Young and managing director of the commercial real estate services firm’s Vancouver office. She made history as Avison Young’s first female managing director in Canada. Before being promoted to that role, Toppazzini served as a senior vice-president in Avison Young’s Vancouver office and founded the firm’s B.C. valuation and advisory team in British Columbia. Toppazzini’s expertise in commercial real estate is expected to contribute to RESAAS’s market expansion and strategic initiatives. Vancouver-based RESAAS, is an award-winning technology company serving the the global residential and commercial property sectors.
  • Conqora Capital Partners, a Toronto-based private equity firm, has launched the Conqora Leadership Development Program to cultivate the next generation of business leaders. As the firm expands its presence in key sectors such as real estate, marine, technology, healthcare, and infrastructure, it seeks to attract ambitious professionals ready to drive innovation and operational excellence. The program offers hands-on exposure to portfolio companies, mentorship from industry leaders, and real-world business experience. Applications are open until February 12.   • The Building Industry and Land Development Association (BILD) has introduced the Trusted Builder program to recognize builder and developer members who have been part of the association for at least 25 years. This initiative provides a certification mark that qualified members can use in their marketing, signifying their long-term commitment and contributions to the Greater Toronto Area’s growth. The program aims to highlight industry resilience and high standards in construction and ethical practices. BILD, representing over 1,200 companies, advocates for the home-building, land-development and renovation sectors in the GTA.
