- Hopewell Development has promoted Phil Brown to senior vice-president of acquisitions and leasing. Brown previously served as VP of acquisitions and leasing with the Calgary-based commercial real estate development company. Prior to joining Hopewell in 2018, Brown held leasing-related leadership and assistant positions with One Properties, Triovest, BGO and Colliers. Hopewell’s services include site selection, planning and design, financing, construction management and leasing. The company also has offices in Toronto and Phoenix.
- NexPoint Hospitality Trust has has promoted Paul Richards to CFO. Richards replaces Brian Mitts, whose previously announced resignation took effect December 31. Richards was elevated from his previous position as vice-president of asset management. Headquartered in Toronto and Dallas, NexPoint is a public REIT that trades on the Toronto Stock Exchange. The REIT primarily acquires, owns and operates hospitality properties located in the U.S. and also invests in life-science and semiconductor manufacturing facilities. In many cases, the properties comprise underperforming assets with the potential to increase in value through investments in capital improvements, a market-based recovery, brand repositioning, revenue enhancements, operational improvements, expense inefficiencies, and exploiting excess land or underutilized space. The REIT owns seven branded properties sponsored by Marriott, Hilton and Hyatt, located across the U.S.
- Anand Pye has resigned as NAIOP Edmonton’s CEO. His resignation will take effect at the end of February. Pye was the commercial real estate industry advocacy group’s first employee and CEO, serving for more than a decade. He has announced his candidacy for Edmonton city council.
- Darlene Reid has been appointed as the Realtors Association of Edmonton’s new board chair. Reid has about 18 years of experience as an associate, associate broker and broker. She has been in the group’s top 5% of brokers since 2011, and also experience as a brokerage office operations manager and mentor. RAE’s 2025 board includes chair-elect Troy Paquette and directors Art Kominek, Chris Hedstrom, Danelle Bolinski, Gary Zimmel, Janice Kosak, Sharon Gregresh and Steven Reid. Darlene Reid succeeds Melanie Boles as 2025 chair. RAE recently cracked the 5,000-member barrier.
- Karen Yolevski will join home-inspection firm Carson Dunlop as CEO on January 6. Yolevski has resigned from her post as chief operating officer at Toronto-based Royal LePage, where she spent approximately four years. A real estate lawyer by profession, Yolevski has held leadership positions with Stewart Title; the Nationwide Group, where she was president of the company’s home-closing and recovery services business segments; Flexiti Financial and law firm Basman Smith.
