  • Macky Tall has been appointed chair of the Canada Infrastructure Bank. He is a former partner and chair of Carlyle’s infrastructure group. Before joining Carlyle, he held a series of leadership positions at Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ) while also serving on the pension fund’s executive and investment-risk committees. He also served as the founding Chair and CEO of CDPQ Infra, CDPQ’s subsidiary specializing in major infrastructure projects, and as chairman of CDPQ’s now in-house real estate arm. He also sits on the board of the National Bank of Canada, WSP and the United Nations joint staff pension-funds investment committee. He also previously served as co-chair of a World Bank infrastructure-related advisory committee.
  • Extendicare has appointed Donald Clow and Heather-Anne Irwin to its board of directors, filling out the existing term until the next annual general meeting, where they will stand for election. The leading seniors’ housing owner and operator also announced the retirement of Al Mawani after seven years on the board, during which he served on various committees, including as chair of the investment committee. Clow brings extensive real estate sector experience, having held multiple C-suite positions. With these changes, Extendicare’s board now consists of nine directors.
  • Leading grocery-store chain owner Empire Company Limited announced that Executive Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer Matt Reindel will retire, with Constantine (Costa) Pefanis set to replace him in May. Pefanis joins from Green Infrastructure Partners, where he served as CFO. Reindel will remain with the company for the next several months to ensure a smooth transition.
  • Hyyve has appointed Christopher Alexander to its advisory board following his departure as president of RE/MAX Canada. Alexander, who began his real estate career as a sales associate with RE/MAX in 2010, held several key executive roles, including chief strategy officer and executive vice-president of RE/MAX INTEGRA. His extensive industry experience is expected to support Hyyve’s strategic growth. The company connects homeowners with real estate agents who bid for their listings.
  • Veteran real estate investor and entrepreneur Drew Green has received the King Charles III Coronation Medal from the federal government. Green is the president and CEO of clothing-store owner and operator Indochino. He also owns and chairs the Canadian Elite Basketball League, and has founded 15 companies in Canada.
  • Carttera has appointed Jaimy Hunt as vice-president of asset management, overseeing leasing and asset management for the firm’s urban-intensification funds and segregated mandates. Hunt brings experience from roles at KingSett Capital, Cadillac Fairview, and Cushman & Wakefield.
  • Cynthia Jagger has joined CBRE’s national investments team in Vancouver. She has more than 20 years of commercial real estate experience, including roles at Dexter Realty, Goodman Commercial, Altus Group, and DTZ Barnicke. An advocate for the real estate industry, she is a frequent speaker at industry forums and media engagements.
  • Transacte Agence Immobilière has added Ahmed Kilani as an associate. He brings 18 years of experience in pharmacy, investment, and real estate. His investment and real estate experience includes roles at Avison Young and Cushman & Wakefield. Kilani specializes in the sale and acquisition of private seniors’ residences, intermediate resources, long-term care facilities, and various healthcare-related properties.
  • Neil Martin has been hired as head of retail investments at Vancouver-based Astria Properties. He was previously self-employed at Climate Control Canada.
  • Enerquality, a subsidiary of the Ontario Home Builders Association has hired a new CEO and appointed a new board of directors. Joe Vaccaro is the new CEO. Meanwhile, the new board will be chaired by Brian Johnston, a retired former CEO of CreateTO and director of Sienna Senior Living and Mortgage Corporation of Canada.
  • Cameron Dowell has been promoted to director at Toronto-based Peakhill Capital. Dowell joined the company as an associate in 2020 and rose to more senior positions.
  • Unceded: Voices of the Land, a groundbreaking Indigenous-led contemporary architecture exhibition, will be showcased at Edmonton City Centre from March 8 to June 21. Originally created for the 2018 Venice Architecture Biennale, Unceded is the first exhibition of its kind to be presented on the world stage, celebrating Indigenous architecture through the perspectives of 18 Indigenous architects and designers from across North America.
