  • Corporate real estate lawyer Noella Milne has been named a member of the Order of Canada. She was recognized for her volunteer leadership and commitment to community service, particularly initiatives supporting education, women and youth. Milne is a senior partner with Bordner Ladner Gervais in Toronto. In addition, she serves as chancellor of George Brown College. Previously, she served on the college’s board of governors and foundation board and launched its Lorna D’Souza Scholarship in honour of her late sister. Milne has also held leadership roles with numerous other organizations, including UNICEF Canada, St. Michaels Hospital, Canadian Club and the Children’s Aid Foundation, where she initiated a program that has enabled thousands of low-income youth to attend college and university. She moved to Canada from India on her own at the age of 17 and put herself through an undergraduate degree and law school at Carleton University in Ottawa.
  • Linely Schaefer has joined Avison Young as managing director of the firm’s Regina affliate office. Schaefer succeeds Dale Griesser, who has served as managing director for two decades. Griesser is staying with Avison Young and focusing on his office sales and leasing specialty. Schaefer will focus on business development and increasing revenue, prioritizing initiatives that expand reach and visibility in the marketplace, said the company in a new release. He moved to Avison Young after serving as an associate broker with Regina-based SC Real Estate since July 2021. He has three decades of commercial real estate experience, specializing in the retail property sector. Two agents, Hali Lawrence and Brian Tiefenbach, have joined Avison Young with Schaefer.
  • Shindico Realty has promoted Alex Akman to COO. Akman had served as Winnipeg-based Shindico’s manager of property management and development since 2017. He joined the company as a property administrator in 2015 and spent about two years in that role. His promotion was one of several announced by the company. Leanne Fontaine was promoted to CFO from her former controller post. She has served in financial positions with Shindico for 18 years. Kelly Smith (asset and property management), Bob Peters (construction) Justin Zarnowski (legal), Alex Krozkin (corporate and construction finance), Stephen Bonkoski (accounting and technology), Linda Cymbalisty (human resources) and Melody Plishka (marketing) were elevated to vice-president positions. Meanwhile, Chelsea Perron (Main and Main partnership), Caitlin Black (property accounting) and Mohamed Mekkawy (marketing) were promoted to director posts.
  • Cadillac Fairview has chosen Cineplex Digital Media to operate and sell digital media and sponsorships for its shopping centres across Canada. CDM will operate a network of 200 digital displays in 18 CF malls, including Toronto’s Eaton Centre, Vancouver’s Pacific Centre, Chinook Centre in Calgary, Rideau Centre in Ottawa, and Carrefour Laval in suburban Montreal. As part of the agreement, Cineplex Media will manage media sales, expanding its out-of-home (OOH) shopping network to 89 premium malls across the country.
  • Nicola Blackwood Realty Advisors has rebranded as Nicola Institutional Realty Advisors. In conjunction with the name change, NIRA appointed Ron Bastin as a co-managing director to serve alongside managing partner John Hayes. The company said the move is part of its succession planning. Bastin had served as vice-president of acquisitions for related firm Nicola Wealth Real Estate since 2020. NIRA focuses on institutional capital tied to the development, acquisition, divestment, management and leasing of industrial, office and retail properties across Canada and the U.S. NIRA is a wholly owned subsidiary of Vancouver-based Nicola Wealth.
  • Fasken has appointed Jean-Philippe Boileau as a partner in the real estate group at its Montreal law office. Boileau has approximately 10 years of real estate industry experience. Prior to joining Fasken, he co-founded and managed his own legal services firm in the La.urentians region of Quebec. His practice focuses on acquisitions, sales, and financing transactions and deals tied to real estate planning and development projects related to mixed-use residential, commercial and industrial assets, hotels and resorts.
