Placemore Co-Founder Troy Demonstrates Strong Leadership

(Connect has handed out its third-annual Canadian Women in Real Estate Awards. This story profiles Terri Troy, a co-founder of Toronto-based Placemore Capital.)

Terri Troy is Co-Founder of Placemore Capital Inc., an advisory firm that works with investment managers/GPs and accredited investors to match the right solutions with the right partners. She has more than 25 years of experience in investment management, pensions, corporate strategy, and mergers and acquisitions. Throughout her career, she has assisted numerous real estate investment managers in raising capital for their property equity and debt platforms across Canada.

Troy works as part of a closely knit team with Placemore Co-Founder Marija Finney, who has also captured a 2025 Canadian Women in Real Estate Award.

Troy was previously CEO of the Halifax Regional Municipality Pension Plan, where she transformed the governance structure, investment strategy, and customer service function. She also implemented factor investing and portable alpha. She placed a significant emphasis on private investments, including co-investments, syndications/club deals with other large institutional investors, as well as direct investments.

During her time with the pension plan, Troy was a member of the boards of a UK energy company and a Canadian financial services corporation. She was also a member of Investor Advisory Committees for various global private investments, including UK, European and US private equity; UK, Australian and Canadian infrastructure; European, UK, Asian, US and Canadian real estate; and European, UK, and US private debt.

Troy also had leadership roles with the Royal Bank of Canada and CIBC.

Troy has been a board member and chair of the Pension Investment Association of Canada (PIAC), as well as chair of the organization’s Investment Practices Committee and Government Relations Committee. She has been a member of the International Limited Partnership Association’s Education Committee and is currently on ILPA’s Teaching Faculty.

Over the course of her career, Troy has earned numerous accolades, including the Leading Pension Plan Sponsor Award and recognition as one of the Top 25 Most Influential Plan Sponsors.
