Popular Blues Can Club Relocates to Northwest Calgary

Calgary’s popular Blues Can nightclub has opened its new location in the city’s northwest quadrant.

The Blues Can relocated to 2002 16th Avenue N.W. from its former location in Inglewood. The Inglewood site is slated for mixed-use redevelopment that will include a retail and multi-residential components.

The new Blues Can is situated on the northwest corner of 16th Avenue N.W. and 19th Street N.W. The location was previously the home of a Tipperary’s pub and once served as a Stavro’s pizza parlour and bar.

The new location is three times larger than the previous Blues Can, owner Greg Smith told Postmedia in December prior to the move. The northwest property includes a large nightclub on one side and a sports lounge on the other, along with an underground parkade.

An outdoor parking lot is located across the back alley.

The crowd was large on the club side when this reporter visited last Friday evening as Jay Coda Walker entertained the patrons during Happy Hour from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

If the brisk trade keeps up, Smith might not be singin’ the blues about business.
