Recipe Unlimited Acquires Olive Garden’s Canadian Restaurants, to Expand Chain

Recipe Restaurants Unlimited has acquired all eight Olive Garden locations in Canada from U.S.-based Darden Restaurants and plans to expand the chain nationally.

The acquisition takes effect immediately, with Recipe set to integrate the restaurants into its existing infrastructure and growth strategy.

The restaurants are located in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Recipe has secured exclusive rights to develop and operate new Olive Garden locations across Canada. In addition, Recipe has entered into a comprehensive development agreement with Darden to expand Olive Garden’s footprint throughout the country.

“Olive Garden is a brand with a strong legacy of success and a loyal following, and we see immense potential for growth across Canada,” said Recipe CEO Frank Hennessey. “This acquisition and subsequent development agreement align perfectly with our strategy to expand our presence in the casual-dining segment with leading brands that resonate with Canadian consumers.”

Recipe, Canada’s largest full-service restaurant company, currently operates about 1,200 restaurants under brands such as Swiss Chalet, Harvey’s and The Keg.

Financial terms were not disclosed.
