Redberry Launches Jersey Mike’s Expansion in Canada with Markham Opening

Redberry Restaurants has launched a major Jersey Mike’s expansion in Canada with the opening of a new location in Markham, Ont.

The outlet is the first of 300 Jersey Mike’s submarine sandwich shops that Toronto-based Redberry, a quick-service-restaurant franchisor, is bringing to Canada over the next 10 years. The opening also marks the first major international expansion in the 68-year history of the U.S.-based chain.

The Markham outlet is located at 8600 Woodbine Avenue in the Buttonville, neighbourhood. The shop is the first of six Jersey Mike’s locations planned for Ontario in 2024. Redberry also intends to open five other Greater Toronto Area locations before the year concludes.

Said Redberry CEO Ken Otto: “We can’t wait to share this iconic brand with our new neighbors.”

Two of the GTA locations will open within Toronto, in the York Mills neighbourhood and downtown at Union Station. The other three will be situated in Brantford, Guelph and Pickering.

The GTA locations will employ nearly 100 crew members. Toronto-based Redberry recently remodelled two Jersey Mike’s locations that it owns in Kitchener, Ont. and London, Ont. They were the chain’s only other two Canadian locations prior to the Markham opening.

The company previously pledged to work with franchisees to open Jersey Mike’s locations in every province.
