Republic Aims to Develop Twin Mixed-Use Towers

Republic Developments has applied to develop twin mixed-use towers in Toronto’s Willowdale area.

Toronto-based Republic is seeking to repurpose two properties located on the east side of Yonge Street, flanking Newton Drive, the company said in a news release. Mulit-residential units would dominate.

One property, at 6167 currently houses a Mazda dealership, while the adjacent unaddressed parcel serves as its sales lot.

Additionally, the site comprises a two-storey commercial building at 9 Madawaska Avenue and a single-family home at 10 Newton Drive, all slated for demolition. The proposed redevelopment plan, designed by Vancouver-based Arkadis IBI Group, aims to replace these structures with two mixed-use buildings.

According to the development application, a property on the north side of Newton is slated to comprise 14 storeys with 354 residential units. Meanwhile, a matching 14-storey structure on the south side of Newton would contain 196 residential units and an underground parkade.

The development would also include retail space and townhouses.
