Richmond Centre Condo Complex Receives 1,212 EV Chargers
Richmond Centre’s backers and partners have delivered the largest multi-residential EV-charging project in Canada by installing 1,212 Elocity smart chargers in its parkade — an area the size of six football fields.
The 1,212 EV chargers are included a multi-residential complex surrounding Cadillac Fairview’s Richmond Centre mall in Richmond, B.C., which is undergoing a major redevelopment.
Cadillac Fairview is partnering on the 12-tower redevelopment project with local developer Shape Properties and GBL Architects.
The charger project, completed by Enlightened Building Technologies using Canadian-made infrastructure, positions the B.C. development among the most extensive single-location EV charging deployments in North America, according to a news release. The system includes advanced energy-management software to balance demand and reduce costs while minimizing strain on the electrical grid.
“This achievement is a testament to the dedication of our team and the strength of our partnerships,” said Jack Bittan, CEO of Enlightened Building Technologies. “We are so proud to be delivering the largest single-site EV charging installation in the country with great Canadian technology.”
Dan Wilson, executive vice president of residential at Shape, said chargers will eliminate barriers to EV adoption.
“Richmond Centre is now home to one of Canada’s most comprehensive EV-charging infrastructure, with every residential stall equipped with a charger at no cost to homeowners, made possible through support from Natural Resources Canada (NRCan),” said Wilson.
Sanjeev Singh, founder and CEO of Elocity, added: “This project demonstrates the power of intelligent, made-in-Canada technology in shaping the global EV landscape.”
The installation is expected to displace about 20.1 million kilometres of gasoline-powered driving and eliminate emissions equal to burning millions of pounds of coal. Key collaborators included Shape, Cadillac Fairview, NRC, the City of Richmond, Ozz Electric, and Axiom Builders.
