Rocky Mountain Bikes’ R&D Centre Remaining on North Shore After Company’s Sale

Rocky Mountain Bicycles will retain its research and development centre in North Vancouver, B.C., following the company’s recent sale to a group of four Canadian investors operating Chaos Sports.

The sale resulted as Rocky Mountain restructured its ownership and operations under the federal Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act.

Rocky Mountain’s said the new owners are committed to keeping the brand rooted in British Columbia, where it was originally founded and has long been a staple for mountain-biking enthusiasts.

“To that end, our research and development activities will resume in North Vancouver, a cornerstone of cycling culture that continues to inspire the company’s vision today,” said Rocky Mountain in a news release announcing the sale.

Rocky Mountain makes mountain bikes at a manufacturing facility in the Montreal area, where the company is also headquartered.

The new ownership group, which includes leaders from the cycling and outdoor industries, brings a shared passion for the sport and a focus on brand growth without sacrificing heritage, according to the company.

Among the new owners are new President Jonathan Bourgeois, co-founder of Raccoon Skis and partner at Maui Bikes; Christian Thibert, president of leading North American distribution company Thibert; Patrick St-Denis, a veteran of Oakley and the North Face; and Jean-François Grenache, a marketing and business development specialist.

“Rocky Mountain is more than just a name—it’s a mindset, a culture, a way of experiencing the ride,” said St-Denis. “We’re stepping in with humility, energy, and determination. Our goal is clear: To honour what has made Rocky strong for over 40 years and to open a new chapter of growth.”

The new owners are also pledging business continuity, including uninterrupted customer service and warranty support, along with continued parts and components availability.

A relaunch is planned for 2025-2026, with the aim of positioning Rocky Mountain as a global mountain-biking leader.
