Rona to Close Calgary and Montreal Distribution Centres
Rona will close two large distribution centres in Calgary and Greater Montreal to improve operating efficiencies.
The company told CBC that the Montreal-area centre, located in Terrebonne, Que., will close in March and the Calgary location, situated in the city’s southeast quadrant, will shut down in October.
Postmedia reported that Rona will consolidate the Calgary centre’s activities into an existing facility in Rocky View County, located just beyond the city’s northeastern edge. Rona operates a 1.23-million-square-foot distribution centre, built at a cost of $120 million in 2021, at Highland Industrial Park in the county.
The area is considered part of the Calgary industrial real estate market.
“We have to focus on further simplifying our operations and eliminating inefficiencies created over the last few years,” the retailer said Wednesday in a statement issued to Postmedia.
Rona told CBC that it intends to consolidate its Terrebonne centre’s activities into its core buildings but did not identify their locations.
Boucherville, Que.-based Rona is owned by New York-based private equity firm Sycamore Partners.
