Roots Taking Up Former Peleton Space on Robson: Daily Hive

Roots Canada has leased a former Peleton store space in downtown Vancouver to develop a new flagship location, Daily Hive Urbanized reported.

The Peleton store closed suddenly last week as the U.S.-based chain continues cost-cutting efforts.

Roots occupies a 1,500-square-foot space at 929 Robson Street. The space was previously deployed as a Tesla showroom.

The iconic Canadian apparel and clothing retailer will expand into the adjacent former Peloton showroom space at 919 Robson, a prominent retail location at the northwest corner of Robson and Hornby streets, next to Robson Square.

Peloton’s Robson showroom closed its doors after four years of operation.

Roots President and CEO Meghan Roach told Daily Hive Urbanized that the Canadian chain anticipated Peloton’s departure due to the fitness company’s ongoing financial struggles.

“We knew that Peloton was eventually going to abdicate a lot of its spaces, and so when we decided to move to the location … we did that with the expectation that we could take on a bigger store,” Roach explained.

Peloton, which has been implementing cost-cutting measures since early 2024, previously announced plans to close numerous global retail locations.

After renovations, the new Roots flagship is expected to open by mid-2025. At that time, the existing smaller 929 Robson Street store will merge with the newly expanded location.

“In the interim period, we decided to open the smaller store sooner because we knew we could do that, and we’ll have the smaller store open until we open the broader, bigger store,” Roach said.

Roots’ existing flagship store at 1001 Robson Street, located at the corner of Burrard and Robson streets, will remain open throughout the Christmas 2024 season before permanently closing in early 2025. The Burrard and Robson flagship first opened in the 1990s, coinciding with Roots’ global expansion and its role as the official outfitter for Canada’s Olympic team.

The new flagship location at Robson and Hornby will match the size of the current store at Burrard and Robson, Daily Hive Urbanized reported.
