Shake Shack Chooses Calgary for First Western Canadian Location
Shake Shack will open its first Western Canadian restaurant this spring at CF Chinook Centre in Calgary, the company announced.
The opening will mark the chain’s first Canadian location outside of Ontario.
The new restaurant at CF Chinook Centre will be located on the upper level across from the Dining Hall and is positioned as a key step in Shake Shack’s national expansion, said the company.
“Since launching in Canada in 2024, Alberta has always been [on] our radar and we are excited for our launch,” said Billy Richmond, business director at Shake Shack Canada. “Shake Shack is more than a burger spot—it’s a neighbourhood hub to celebrate delicious food and community. We can’t wait to serve up our signature menu items along with some Calgary exclusives.”
The Calgary location will feature the brand’s signature menu built around Canadian-sourced ingredients, including its ShackBurger made with 100% Alberta Angus beef raised without antibiotics and served fresh, never frozen. Other offerings include the Chicken Shack made with cage-free Canadian chicken, crinkle-cut fries, hand-spun shakes made with Canadian dairy, and Applewood smoked bacon sourced from local farms.
The space will also showcase a custom mural by Calgary-based artist Irene Neyman, marking Shake Shack’s first creative collaboration in Alberta. Her artwork highlights recognizable elements of Calgary through bright colours, simple shapes and detailed textures.
“Shake Shack has such a strong sense of personality, so it was exciting to translate that through a local lens,” said Neyman. “The mural is meant to feel playful, welcoming, and connected to Calgary – a space people want to spend time in.”
Founded in New York City’s Madison Square Park in 2001, Shake Shack has grown into a global fast-casual brand focused on premium ingredients, hospitality and community engagement. Its Stand For Something Good mission emphasizes responsible sourcing, investment in local partnerships and employee development.
“As we arrive in Calgary, Shake Shack looks forward to introducing its Alberta partners, reinforcing our commitment to building meaningful, long-term local relationships in every community it joins across the country,” added Richmond. “That commitment extends to how we invest in people, creating meaningful jobs with a strong focus on training, development and clear pathways for team members to grow into leadership roles.”
Shake Shack Canada, formed in 2023 through a partnership between Osmington and Harlo Entertainment, currently operates seven locations in Ontario and plans to open at least 35 locations nationwide.
