Songhees, Esquimalt First Nations, Pomerleau to Invest in Greater Victoria Infra Projects
The Songhees Development Corporation, Esquimalt Nation and Pomerleau have formed a new joint venture that will invest in infrastructure projects in the Victoria, B.C., area and beyond
The Group of 3 Ventures Limited Partnership (G3V) will focus on pursuing major infrastructure projects, said the partners.
Led by the two First Nations, G3V will initially target opportunities in the defence infrastructure sector, including environmental remediation work supporting the Department of National Defence’s A Jetty Project in Esquimalt, B.C. The project is being delivered in collaboration with Defence Construction Canada.
The partnership combines the Songhees and Esquimalt’s local knowledge, community leadership and relationships with Pomerleau’s experience delivering complex infrastructure projects across Canada, said the partners. G3V also plans to pursue broader infrastructure opportunities throughout the Greater Victoria Area, also known as the Lekwungen Territory.
The venture takes its name from a Lekwungen word meaning “a group of three people,” reflecting the partnership between the two Nations and Pomerleau.
“This partnership reflects economic reconciliation in action, grounded in Lekwungen leadership and built to deliver real, lasting impact,” said Rob Dick, corporate executive officer of Songhees Development Corporation. “By bringing together local First Nation leadership and industry expertise, G3V creates meaningful economic opportunities, strengthens regional capacity, and supports the delivery of infrastructure that benefits the South Island region as a whole,”
Esquimalt Nation Chief Jerome Thomas said the partnership ensures that the two Indigenous groups will have aa meaningful role in infrastructure projects taking place in the region.
“This partnership creates durable economic opportunities for Esquimalt Nation while enabling the delivery of projects with the expertise, experience, and capability required for complex infrastructure development,” said Thomas.
Daniel Lessard, Pomerleau’s senior vice-president of civil and infrastructure for Western Canada, said the strongest projects are built with the strongest partnerships, and G3V is a reflection of that belief. G3V is also rooted in mutual respect and a shared vision for the communities that the partners serve.
“We are honoured to work alongside Songhees and Esquimalt communities as we build something meaningful and lasting together in Lekwungen Territory,” said Lessard.
