South Korean Grocer Opens New Calgary Store

South Korean grocery chain H-Mart has opened a new supermarket in northwest Calgary.

H-Mart took up space in RioCan REIT’s Beacon Hill Shopping Centre along Sarcee Trail N.W. Jonathan Gheron, a Cushman & Wakefield retail sales and leasing specialist, indicated on LinkedIn that he helped broker the lease.

The new store contains the first Tous Les Jours bakery location in Canada. Korea Economic Daily and other media outlets based in South Korea have reported that the bakery chain’s parent company, CJ Group, plans to open locations in Vancouver, Toronto and other major Canadian markets..

CJ Group operates Tous Les Jours through its CJ Foodville subsidiary. The company intends to have 1,000 Tous Les Jours locations in North America by 2030, according to the South Korean media reports.
